Märchen Teal 100%

HEX:
#009D98

RGB:
0/157/152

Description:
There's a really fun video game genre called the "cute 'em up," which is a sub-genre of the "shoot 'em up." One particular Japanese import cute 'em up I like is: "Märchen Adventure Cotton 100%." The title screen uses various teal hues primarily, so that's where this color came from.

Blush Red

HEX:
#FA9D80

RGB:
250/157/128

Description:
This is for my friend "Eri," who's cheeks always appear to be radiating even when she's not embarrassed or wearing make up.

Lasarus

HEX:
#5A93F0

RGB:
90/147/240

Description:
Usually rendered "Lazarus," this color is named after the twice-lived character of the Bible. I can't promise that this will be the last blog entry to include a Biblical reference, as there are just too many interesting titles to use. I'd be a terrible colorphile to pass them up.

Puffy Pink

HEX:
#F794DC

RGB:
247/148/220

Description:
A quadruple homage to: "Puffy" the Japanese female pop duo, "Kirby" the video game character, "Powerpuff Girls" the cartoon, and pink marshmallows. xd

Plush

HEX:
#6D25DA

RGB:
109/37/218

Description:
Through bad and good, the "Stone Temple Pilots" have remained one of my favorite rock groups over the years, so I endeavored to come up with a simple dual-reference involving my favorite S.T.P. song and my favorite S.T.P. album.

Funky Red

HEX:
#E94B00

RGB:
233/75/0

Description:
There once was a boy named "Killian Funk," who had curly reddish hair and freckles to match. One day, in 7th grade, someone decided to create his own comic book depicting Killian as a perverted little nerd who crosses dimensions upon murdering a notorious bully. When this comic "accidentally" got published in the school newspaper, it was brought to Killian's attention and he was none too pleased. Having already burned bridges with his Irish friend, the reprehensible comic-creator was resigned to continue selling subscriptions to snickering classmates. This color represents Mr. Funk's ginger waves, and the relationship we once shared.

Cat Eye Aureolin

HEX:
#F6DE10

RGB:
246/222/16

Description:

This is nearly the same shade of yellow as "aureolin" (aka: "cobalt yellow"), which looks similar in color to a cat's yellow eyes. That automatically makes this the cutest yellow submission I've created so far!

Ilasu

HEX:
#0BD4E6

RGB:
11/212/230

Description:
Created for Merit's close friend who always seems to radiate with a bright blue energy.

Evening Shade

HEX:
#DE813D

RGB:
222/129/61

Description:
A very subdued use of "sepia." I added orange and grey to simulate the open shade during a sunset.

Purple Cape

HEX:
#220044

RGB:
60/27/83

Description:

A deep purple hue suited for the silent, regal, hero-type.

Honey Green Tea

HEX:
#80CE96

RGB:
128/206/150

Description:
Green tea is best when made organically with some lemon and honey. For this color I decided to copy the "Arizona Green Tea With Ginseng and Honey" can, since adding lemon and/or honey doesn't seem to change the color of homemade tea much at all.

Sunny Side Up

HEX:
#FFCC00

RGB:
255/204/0

Description:

Probably my second favorite way to eat eggs, behind scrambled.

Etrigan

HEX:
#2ADE00

RGB:
42/222/0

Description:
Created for an IRC acquaintance who works for Mibbit. For some reason, the name "Etrigan" gave me a "mutagen" vibe, so I made sure that the shade of green looked like ooze. Nobody knows if his user-name is a reference to "Etrian Odyssey," but he seems to enjoy reminding everyone how they're spelled so similarly. =P

Southern Cross

HEX:
#332110

RGB:
51/33/16

Description:

A little brown, a little grey, and a lot of black to recreate the look and feel of a dilapidated metropolis, which serves as the main setting for my screenplay.

Vitamin Y

HEX:
#E7DC24

RGB:
231/220/36

Description:
I was attempting to create the look of a tasty yellow vitamin. By adding some grey in, it looks a bit more mineral-enriched.

Arctic Mist

HEX:
#DBEAF5

RGB:
219/234/245

Description:
It's been awhile since I created a color title that actually sounds like a decent name for a Crayola crayon. So, here's "Arctic Mist," which I created in like five minutes, but only because I'm more adept at using Photoshop now to pinpoint and emulate colors in images I bring up.

Halcyon Green

HEX:
#5FBF45

RGB:
95/191/69

Description:
This shade of green emulates the hair color of the character "Yotsuba" from the "Yotsuba&" manga series. I got the name from an online acquaintance who calls himself "halycon," (which I suppose was meant as an alternative rendering) since he sported a "Yotsuba&" avatar for awhile.

Rook

HEX:
#35343D

RGB:
53/52/61

Description:
This is an ashen hue that has some blue mixed in. It's the color for the robe of "Rook," another character whom I've yet to frame as antagonist or protagonist. Going by this shade of grey, it's obvious he's a mysterious fellow with a dark history.

Valitan

HEX:
#32034D

RGB:
34/0/68

Description:
Valitan is the benevolent sky captain of "The Midnight Ark," a spaceship from my screenplay that I did a color for earlier. I wanted to create for him a dark and mysterious shade of purple that would suit his crestfallen personality, as well as his wardrobe.

Northerly Star

HEX:
#CCDCFF

RGB:
204/220/255

Description:
A soft, cool, blue hue that I thought looked rather northerly.

Shield Blue

HEX:
#1F5C90

RGB:
31/92/144

Description:
To be honest, I have no idea where I came up with this entry... I guess I was thinking a little grey and medium blue would give it the appearance of a shield made of steel.

Dawn Pink

HEX:
#fAA9B3

RGB:
250/169/179

Description:
I'm hoping this color conjures up the image of a morning sky imbued with pink hues. However, Pokemon fans will recognize this as the color used for "Dawn" (aka. "Hikari") from the DS game: "Pokemon Diamond & Pearl," which is pretty much my favorite game of all time.

Dryad

HEX:
#749E33

RGB:
116/158/51

Description:
A "Dryad" is a tree nymph in Greek mythology usually depicted using a mix of greens and/or browns. Here, I simply faded the green a bit and added some yellowish-brown to appear more organic and fern-like.

Julian

HEX:
#F18D50

RGB:
241/141/80

Description:
The first name for my screenplay's main antagonist, "Julian Salk." This color combines orange and peach, mostly.

Kale Green

HEX:
#4F9956

RGB:
79/153/86

Description:
Kale is a type of cabbage that exists in a variety of shapes and colors, so I chose the "curly kale" to use as my reference for this green hue. There are also purple kale, so I may create a color for that later on.

Bitches Blue

HEX:
#104EEC

RGB:
16/78/236

Description:
I couldn't wait to create a controversial color, so without further ado: "Bitches Blue." This is actually the title for an album I once heard, but I don't recommend running an internet search on it. =P

Etrian Green

HEX:
#01A088

RGB:
1/160/136

Description:

Created after playing "Etrian Odyssey" for the DS, which has your character traversing through a lush labyrinth in the first-person. The game utilizes a nice variety of teal hues, so I kind of just spliced them together here.

Royal Peach

HEX:
#F5A3C6

RGB:
245/163/198

Description:
This color was tagged as "Royal Pink" for awhile, before I ended up naming it more closely after its subject: "Princess Peach" from the Super Mario series. This color resembles what her dress looks like in most of the games she's in.

Tarta

HEX:
#4C0C09

RGB:
76/12/9

Description:
The name combines "tart" and my friend's name "Tara," whom I told I would create a color for. Hopefully she approves. And if she doesn't, she'll be quick to let me know by demonstrating some of her signature tartness! ;)

Salk

HEX:
#E68458

RGB:
230/132/88

Description:

The name comes from another antagonist in my screenplay; a middle-aged aristocratic-type who speaks rather philosophically about the world that he feels is beneath him. I'm not really sure why or how I visualized this color for this character, but while he's a dark person on the inside, Salk is optimistically-evil on the outside.
