Domino Orange

HEX:
#D8560E

RGB:
216/86/14

Description:

"Domino" is the Japanese-rendered name for "Sami," a character from the "Advance Wars" series of strategy video games. Sami is one of the coolest gaming heroines I think I've ever played as, with my favorite character designs coming from the sequel: "Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising." This shade of orange mimics the color of Sami's hair.

Minter

HEX:
#7ADFC6

RGB:
122/223/197

Description:
Mint + winter = "minter."

Karaoke Pink

HEX:
#CC2779

RGB:
204/39/121

Description:
I'll admit that I've been to a few karaoke joints in the U.S. and abroad. They're everywhere in Asia that it's practically a sport, or at least a major hobby for many. Some families I met had their own karaoke machines, and I remember a couple of them being this dark pink or violet color. Some of the karaoke rooms I visited were decorated and lit with some pretty cool red, pink, and violet hues. Anyways, here's my attempt at emulating what I feel should be the official color of karaoke!

Yéliel

HEX:
#F7ED4E

RGB:
247/237/78

Description:
A softer yellow than "Hive Yellow," which borrows the name of a pop-ballad song I heard covered by a Cantonese singer.

Livid Mint

HEX:
#263C36

RGB:
38/60/54

Description:
I failed to come up with a variant of "dark mint" that I was satisfied with, so I created something that added a lot of grey. I think this color could also be called: "dark chocolate mint creme."

Loveless

HEX:
#D34667

RGB:
211/70/103

Description:

Two things came to mind when coming up with this title: the infamous theatre play advertised in "Final Fantasy VII," and the manga of the same name. I meant for this color to emulate the manga's volume 1 cover designs, which uses a really nice array of subtly-faded pink and red hues.

Blue Burst

HEX:
#00327C

RGB:
0/50/124

Description:

I was remembering a PC role-playing game called: "Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst" when the title came to me. After image-searching "blue burst," I found a couple more items that utilized this name, one of which was a guitar. It was colored with all kinds of crazy blueish-green hues, but I tried to closely resemble what the guitar face looked like.

Crown of Thorns

HEX:
#979700

RGB:
151/151/0

Description:
My attempt at creating an organic shade of olive green. I was pleased with the imagery that this conjured up, so I went with it.

Midoran Rose

HEX:
#53004E

RGB:
83/0/78

Description:
In my screenplay, the alien planet of "Midora" possesses a type of rose that acts as the antidote to a certain virus. This hue represents their empire's official symbol, but more specifically, it's the color that the planet reflects when seen from afar.

Serpentine

HEX:
#003328

RGB:
0/51/40

Description:
A serpent-like shade of dark sea green.

Moonbrooke

HEX:
#D494EF

RGB:
212/148/239

Description:
One of my online buddies really likes the character "Princess Moonbrooke," from the role-playing video game: "Dragon Quest II." The shade of purple I'm using is meant to somewhat emulate her hair color, which is actually a bit deeper of a violet than this.

Trident Green

HEX:
#09C266

RGB:
9/194/102

Description:
I always associated a "trident" with the colors green or sea green, and that's probably from being influenced by The Little Mermaid, where the king wields a trident under the sea!

Blank

HEX:
#80533A

RGB:
128/83/58

Description:
Named after a minor character from "Final Fantasy IX," a PlayStation role-playing game that released right after I graduated from high school. "Blank" was probably my fourth-favorite character, behind Beatrix, Kuja, and Steiner.

Pink Swan

HEX:
#F4C6C8

RGB:
244/198/200

Description:
It wasn't until the arcade fighting game "Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom" released that I discovered one of the greatest animation characters of all time: "Jun the Swan." Her weapon of choice is the yo-yo, which is pretty much all you need to know to become a believer. For this shade of pink I kinda cheated and used Photoshop to pinpoint and emulate the exact color for Jun's wardrobe in the fighting game. The result looks somewhat like pink Silly Putty.

NuBeth

HEX:
#1B23C7

RGB:
27/35/199

Description:

I'm using the word "NuBeth" for a location in my screenplay, which may or may not end up being the pseudonym for "earth." I haven't gotten that far, yet. I also don't really have any thoughtful explanation for the deep blue hue other than I think it fits the name well.

Galatea

HEX:
#618470

RGB:
97/132/112

Description:
My favorite character from the "Claymore" manga series is definitely "Galatea," who's outfit uses the same general color in the animated adaptation. I tend to shy away from forest green and emerald hues when creating new colors, since those are my least-favorite, but this is probably far enough removed from that end of the color-spectrum to not have to worry. XD

Arcana Heart Pink

HEX:
#F14280

RGB:
241/66/128

Description:

This color makes reference to the arcade fighting game: "Arcana Hearts," which utilizes a lot of really awesome magenta and cerise hues. The closest official color match is "cerise pink."

Apple Seed

HEX:
#BEDB4A

RGB:
190/214/74

Description:
A mix of green apple and the light amber hue of an apple seed. I did my best to make this look delicious enough to eat.

Märchen Teal 100%

HEX:
#009D98

RGB:
0/157/152

Description:
There's a really fun video game genre called the "cute 'em up," which is a sub-genre of the "shoot 'em up." One particular Japanese import cute 'em up I like is: "Märchen Adventure Cotton 100%." The title screen uses various teal hues primarily, so that's where this color came from.

Blush Red

HEX:
#FA9D80

RGB:
250/157/128

Description:
This is for my friend "Eri," who's cheeks always appear to be radiating even when she's not embarrassed or wearing make up.

Lasarus

HEX:
#5A93F0

RGB:
90/147/240

Description:
Usually rendered "Lazarus," this color is named after the twice-lived character of the Bible. I can't promise that this will be the last blog entry to include a Biblical reference, as there are just too many interesting titles to use. I'd be a terrible colorphile to pass them up.

Puffy Pink

HEX:
#F794DC

RGB:
247/148/220

Description:
A quadruple homage to: "Puffy" the Japanese female pop duo, "Kirby" the video game character, "Powerpuff Girls" the cartoon, and pink marshmallows. xd

Plush

HEX:
#6D25DA

RGB:
109/37/218

Description:
Through bad and good, the "Stone Temple Pilots" have remained one of my favorite rock groups over the years, so I endeavored to come up with a simple dual-reference involving my favorite S.T.P. song and my favorite S.T.P. album.

Funky Red

HEX:
#E94B00

RGB:
233/75/0

Description:
There once was a boy named "Killian Funk," who had curly reddish hair and freckles to match. One day, in 7th grade, someone decided to create his own comic book depicting Killian as a perverted little nerd who crosses dimensions upon murdering a notorious bully. When this comic "accidentally" got published in the school newspaper, it was brought to Killian's attention and he was none too pleased. Having already burned bridges with his Irish friend, the reprehensible comic-creator was resigned to continue selling subscriptions to snickering classmates. This color represents Mr. Funk's ginger waves, and the relationship we once shared.

Cat Eye Aureolin

HEX:
#F6DE10

RGB:
246/222/16

Description:

This is nearly the same shade of yellow as "aureolin" (aka: "cobalt yellow"), which looks similar in color to a cat's yellow eyes. That automatically makes this the cutest yellow submission I've created so far!

Ilasu

HEX:
#0BD4E6

RGB:
11/212/230

Description:
Created for Merit's close friend who always seems to radiate with a bright blue energy.

Evening Shade

HEX:
#DE813D

RGB:
222/129/61

Description:
A very subdued use of "sepia." I added orange and grey to simulate the open shade during a sunset.

Purple Cape

HEX:
#220044

RGB:
60/27/83

Description:

A deep purple hue suited for the silent, regal, hero-type.

Honey Green Tea

HEX:
#80CE96

RGB:
128/206/150

Description:
Green tea is best when made organically with some lemon and honey. For this color I decided to copy the "Arizona Green Tea With Ginseng and Honey" can, since adding lemon and/or honey doesn't seem to change the color of homemade tea much at all.

Sunny Side Up

HEX:
#FFCC00

RGB:
255/204/0

Description:

Probably my second favorite way to eat eggs, behind scrambled.
